OUR FEATURED COUNTRY: Argentina
The President of the United States visited Argentina on March 23-24 2016, the first visit since 2005. His visit intends to expand both countries’ bilateral agenda, including on trade and investment. Both countries have a bilateral investment treaty in place and more than 500 US companies are among the top investors in Argentina. The new Argentinian President, Mauricio Macri, is clearly pro-trade oriented.

According to US Census data, trade between the United States and South Korea totaled slightly above 13 billion USD in 2015. The United States exported a total value of USD 9,3 billion and imported USD 3,9 billion worth of goods. This is below the 2014 figure (USD 15 billion in total of which USD 10,8 billion of exports and USD 4,2 billion of imports).
The United States export mainly mineral fuel machinery, chemicals and plastic but as well private commercial services.
Imports from Argentina are mainly mineral fuels, chemical products, iron and steel and beverages, including wine.

Opportunities for business can be found in particular in agricultural products and manufacturing.

BUSINESS PUBLICATIONS
Buenos Aires Herald

The Buenos Ayres Herald (the original spelling) is founded by William Cathcart, an ageing Scot who had spent 50 years in "the Argentine." The first issue (see right) 122 years ago today was simple compared to today's product: It constituted of a single sheet with advertising on the front and mostly shipping coverage on the back (with the odd general news and community item thrown in).
